The Graduate School of Business and Leadership seeks to appoint a suitably qualified academic in the discipline who will also actively manage the Schools initiative in the field of Regional and Local Economic Development (RLED). The successful incumbent will be responsible for the teaching of post-graduate students in Leadership Studies/ Business Studies with special emphasis on LED and to build the knowledge base of the discipline through teaching, research and community engagement (academics are required to be building a national profile as scholars in research and teaching). Administration of certain teaching activities within the discipline will also be required.

This position carries the responsibility of project managing the schools Regional and Local Economic Development initiative for a period of up to 4 years (the incumbent will continue as a permanent member of staff at end of this period). Project management experience is required as well as an ability to engage with academic, government, and business stakeholders and to contribute to building a deeper understanding of challenges and solutions for successful implementation of regional and local economic development, through informed scholarship, the building of a vibrant community of practice and the integration of research with policy implementation in the public and private sectors.

Minimum Requirements: (objectively measurable from CV)

Senior Lecturer:

  • Relevant Doctoral degree;
  • Teaching at postgraduate level and a minimum of three years teaching experience in the discipline at a higher education institution;
  • Appropriate scholarship/research within the discipline (including publications);
  • Evidence of successful postgraduate supervision of Masters and/or PhD students.
  • Evidence of relevant project management experience


Advantages

  • Relevant management/business experience.


Lecturer:

  • Relevant Master’s degree;
  • Teaching at postgraduate level and a minimum of two years teaching experience in the discipline at a higher education institution;
  • Evidence of successful postgraduate supervision of Honours/Postgraduate diploma and/or Master’s students; and
  • Evidence of relevant project management experience.


Advantages

  • Progress towards a PhD; and
  • Relevant management/business experience.

 

Communication will be limited to short-listed candidates. Short-listed candidates may be required to do a presentation at the interview.
