Sickle Cell Branch

 

With nationwide responsibility for improving the health and wellbeing of all Americans, the Department of Health and Human Services oversees the biomedical research programs of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and those of NIH’s research Institutes. The Division of Intramural Research (DIR) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is seeking an outstanding physician to support a research program in clinical and translational science on the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD. The existing faculty is an outstanding group of internationally recognized biomedical researchers covering a wide range of basic and clinical research topics (please see http://dir.nhlbi.nih.gov/) complemented by the other research institutes within the DIR (please see http://www.nih.gov/science/#campus).

The NHLBI is recruiting for a Staff Clinician to support an innovative and translational research program in Sickle Cell Disease in the Sickle Cell Branch (SCB), a major component of the NHLBI’s intramural program. The Staff Clinician will provide support to active clinical research protocols aimed at unraveling pathogenesis through genetic approaches, testing novel therapies based upon these results, and providing high quality patient care. This position would report to Dr. Swee Lay Thein.

The successful candidate should have strong training, expertise and experience in clinical hematology with board certification or eligibility in adult or pediatric hematology, along with experience in sickle cell disease.  Applicants must be licensed to practice medicine in the United States. Salary is commensurate with research experience and accomplishments.

Candidates must have an MD or MD/PhD (or equivalent), with subspecialty training in hematology. Appointees may be US citizens, resident aliens, or non-resident aliens with or eligible to obtain a valid employment authorized visa.
