I. History

Nanjing University of Finance and Economics (NUFE), one of the key comprehensive universities in Jiangsu Province, is oriented to the disciplines of economics and management, coupled with those of laws, engineering, humanities, and science. In 2000 the university was merged by Nanjing Institute of Economics, Jiangsu Finance and Economics College, and Jiangsu Economics Management Cadres College. In April, 2003, ratified by the Ministry of Education, the university was officially renamed Nanjing University of Finance and Economics. In 2006 the university ranked top in the evaluation of undergraduate programs.

At present the university hosts 20 schools and departments as follows, School of Economics, School of Public Finance and Taxation, School of Finance, School of International Economics and Commerce, School of Accounting, School of Business Administration, School of Marketing and Logistics Management, School of Public Administration, School of Management and Engineering, School of Law, School of Food Science and Engineering, School of Information Engineering, School of Marxism, School of Foreign Languages, School of Artistic Designing, School of Applied Mathematics, School of Journalism, College of International Education, College of Continuing Education and Department of Physical Education; and Hongshan College, a privately-run subordinate school. The university now has 52 graduate programs, and 46 undergraduate programs. NUFE has thus formed a complete system of economics and management disciplines, with the interdisciplinary support from law, engineering, humanities and science. The university has a clear advantage in its discipline setup over other universities in Jiangsu Province.

The university has 3 campuses, including Xianlin, Fujian Road and Qiaotou, covering a total area of 500 acres, with the academic buildings taking 20 acres. The total value of fixed assets is 22 hundred million, and the total value of teaching and research equipment is 1.3 hundred million. The libraries hold over 2 million books. The multi-media classrooms amount to more than 200, and the number of labs and computer rooms is over 100 with 8836 computers for teaching. The layout of the campuses is clear and reasonable, and the public services are complete. NUFE has formed a special campus environment with distinctive characteristics, modern flavor, elegant style and rich cultural atmosphere.

After years of reform and construction, and depended on new development mechanism, NUFE now enjoys good social awareness and influence with radical progress realized.
