At Merck, the Process Development and Engineering Department is responsible to develop upstream and downstream processes for both early and late stage biologics, as well as transferring these processes within internal and external manufacturing networks. Process Development and Engineering is seeking a highly motivated scientist to support the development of mammalian cell culture process and robust proprietary media to be utilized for the production of biopharmaceuticals at clinical and commercial scales.

Qualifications

Education:

- M.S. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Biochemistry or other related Biological Sciences OR a BS degree in related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience in industry or academia.

Required:

- Experience in cell culture medium development.

- Ability to apply statistical designs and analyses to develop new media to improve mammalian cell culture processes.

- Strong skills in critical thinking, laboratory experimentation and data analysis. Ability to multitask and maintain organized data systems.

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work in team environment.

Preferred:

- Experience with multi-well cell culture screening system and microbioreactors, and metabolic analyses using HPLC/UPLC systems.

- Experience with bioreactor operation (fed-batch and perfusion processes). Understanding of process scale-up and mass transfer.
