The School has a student body of over 1800 students and has seen strong growth in demand for teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

AMME staff conduct world leading research and development in the areas of aerospace, biomedical, combustion, design, fluid dynamics, materials, rheology, robotics and thermodynamics.  Based on a strong growth in student numbers and an outstanding record of research excellence, we are currently looking to fill up to four Scholarly Teaching positions across a variety of disciplines within the School of AMME.

The School of AMME is seeking candidates with demonstrated research and teaching excellence across a broad range of engineering fields.  These scholarly teaching fellowship positions are designed to provide junior staff with an opportunity to develop their teaching portfolios while also establishing their research track records and are targeted at discipline areas that align with our main teaching streams. As a member of the AMME staff, in addition to leading research you will be expected to take responsibility for lecturing in undergraduate and postgraduate units of study.

Specific areas of teaching will be determined in consultation with the Head of School and may comprise 1st and 2nd year introductory engineering units of study as well as specialist higher-level electives associated with your research area. Teaching experience in engineering is a requirement for this position. Successful candidates will work closely with existing staff in preparing and delivering course material in addition to supporting labs, supervising thesis projects and coordinating units of study in their own right.  Areas to be targeted in recruiting STF candidates include Aerospace, Biomedical, Design, Materials, Mechatronics, System Dynamics and Control.  Detailed application instructions are included below.

We are seeking people with

  • a PhD (or equivalent)
  • a track record of excellence in teaching associated with core undergraduate and postgraduate units of study
  • the ability to develop new areas of curriculum as required
  • experience in supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research students
  • a track record of performing high-quality, independent and collaborative research
  • a track record of publication in leading international peer reviewed journals, with a commensurate citation impact
  • potential for industry interaction and liaison
  • the ability to contribute to the administration of the School, the University and the wider community.

Under the Fellowship rules, you must be able to provide verification that you satisfy the following criteria:

  • Have fixed term and/or casual employment experience totalling at least 12 months in one or more Australian universities over the preceding five years.
  • Have been awarded or have submitted a PhD qualification.
  • Do not hold, or have previously held, any continuing academic appointment in a university.

These positions are full-time continuing, subject to completion of a satisfactory probation and confirmation period for new appointees.  Part-time appointments may also be considered for candidates with independent funding available to cover a part-time commitment to a more research active role.

To be considered for this position it is essential that you address the online selection criteria. For guidance on how to apply visit: How to apply for an advertised position.
