The Medical Affairs Director, Neuroscience, is a therapeutic and disease expert who develops ongoing professional relationships with clinical and scientific experts, with the ultimate goal of helping to achieve positive health outcomes for patients. The Medical Affairs Director provides accurate information about Merck products and related clinical and translational science in a balanced and credible manner consistent with regulatory guidance and Merck’s ethical standards. Internally, the Medical Affairs Director provides insight about developments in clinical practice, research and health care systems. Additionally, the Medical Affairs Director contributes to cross-functional workstreams and serves as a resource for the US Medical Affairs management team, contributing to strategic planning and providing education and mentoring for other team members and business partners.
Primary Activities:
- Develop professional relationships and communicate with relevant national and regional experts to ensure access to medical and scientific information on Merck products and areas of therapeutic interest.
- Conduct peer- to-peer scientific discussions and maintain a reliable presence with clinical and scientific experts to ensure they have a medical contact within Merck.
- Provide accurate information about clinical and translational science in a balanced and credible manner, consistent with both regulatory requirements and Merck’s ethical standards.
- Develop and maintain expertise in relevant clinical and scientific areas.
- Attend scientific and medical meetings and support development of post-meeting internal deliverables.
- Describe areas of interest and provide general information regarding the Merck Investigator-Initiated Study Program process.
- When needed, serve as a resource for the identification of potential investigators for consideration in phase II-IV clinical development programs
- Provide mentoring and education within Merck.
- Serve as a resource to internal scientific activities.
- Participate in Medical Affairs and cross-functional project teams.
Location: Northeast (MA, RI, CT, NY)
Qualifications
Education:
- Required: Doctoral degree (MD, PhD, PharmD or DNP)
Required:
- Minimum of three (3) years of clinical or research experience in a CNS therapeutic area – such as neurology, psychiatry, psychopharmacology, neuropsychology or behavioral healthcare – or in geriatric medicine or sleep medicine.
- Capable of conducting doctoral level discussions with clinical and scientific experts.
- Thorough familiarity with databases for searching the biomedical literature
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and networking skills
- Must be able to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment.
- Strong basic personal computing skills (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Travel 40%.
- Combination of clinical and scientific acumen.
Preferred:
- Teaching experience
- Record of scientific/medical publication
- Knowledgeable about the US Healthcare system.
- Knowledgeable about clinical guideline development and quality measurement.
- Clinical (patient care) or research experience in Sleep and/or Alzheimer’s disease therapeutic area(s).
- Experience in sleep disorders, dementia, geriatrics, or primary care behavioral health
