Summary:

Develops, coordinates, and provides bio-statistical support for related drug/vaccine projects under supervision in Biometrics Research.

Ensures that sound scientific principles and statistical methods are applied to designing and analyzing non-clinical trials or clinical studies in support of discovery and worldwide regulatory submissions.

Interacts with Clinical, Regulatory, Statistical Programming, Data Management and other Merck Research Laboratories Scientists in designing and analyzing non-clinical and clinical trials, and in coordinating the statistical activities for clinical drug/vaccine projects.

The incumbent may initially work in a specific disease therapeutic area.

Responsibilities:

- One of the primary roles of this position is to provide statistical support to Merck scientists who develop, qualify, validate, and run assays to support Merck's vaccine and biologics programs. Thus, statistical knowledge and experience with Design of Experiments and linear mixed effects models are needed. Prior experience with the development and validation of assays is preferred.

- Develop, coordinate, and provide bio-statistical leadership and support for related drug/vaccine projects in Biometrics Research.

- Ensure that sound scientific principles and statistical methods are applied to designing and analyzing non-clinical trials or clinical studies in support of discovery and worldwide regulatory submissions. Interact with Clinical, Regulatory, Statistical Programming, Data Management, and other Merck Research Laboratories Scientists in designing and analyzing non-clinical and clinical trials, and in coordinating the statistical activities for clinical drug/vaccine projects. May interact with Contract Research Organization (CRO).

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

- PhD or equivalent degree in statistics/biostatistics or related discipline, or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience.

Required:

- Solid knowledge of statistical analysis methodologies and experimental design including factorial experiments.

- Working knowledge of statistical and data processing software including R.

- Good oral and written communication skills. Able to work effectively with personnel with different functional background.

- Demonstrate strong interest in statistical research activities and in application of novel methods to non-clinical or clinical studies development.

- Must also demonstrate the ability to learn, be proactive and motivated, and consistently focus on details and execution.

Preferred:

- An understanding of and experience with biological and/or chemical assays.

- An understanding of statistical quality control.

- An understanding of the biology of disease.

- Ability to work with large complex data sets.

- An understanding of risk
