Job Details

We are seeking to appoint a talented individual to undertake applied epidemiological investigations into the aetiology of complex human traits at the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit (IEU) at the University of Bristol. The IEU consists of six research programmes encompassing causal modeling, genetic and epigenetic epidemiology. Professor George Davey Smith is director of the IEU and runs programme 1, on Mendelian randomization. The appointed person will largely contribute to this programme, but will work collaboratively with many researchers across the Unit, and with external collaborators. A major focus of the post will be the performance of Mendelian randomization analyses, in particular newly developed two-sample Mendelian randomization approaches utilizing large-scale available datasets as well as in-house data, such as the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC, www.bris.ac.uk/alspac) cohort, and from initiatives such as the UK Biobank and UK10K (www.uk10k.org). There may be opportunities to visit and spend time at collaborating centres.

The appointment will be full-time on Grade I and is offered as an open ended contract. Funding is initially available until March 2018, with every expectation for this to be extended further on review of the Unit. The post is ideally suited to someone with a PhD in genetic epidemiology, statistical genetics or a closely related discipline.

The closing date for applications is 18th August 2016 and interviews will be held in the week commencing 5th September 2016.

For informal enquiries please contact Prof George Davey Smith 0117 331 0099 or via email kz.davey-smith@bristol.ac.uk
