Job Purpose

A fixed term, 15 month appointment to contribute to a number of projects in the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues; specifically the post holder will play an important role in developing the project/s on which they will work, in terms of methods and approach, and particularly data analysis. The Centre is keen to encourage applications from a wide variety of disciplines and backgrounds from education and the social sciences, although a background in quantitative research methods is essential.

The post-holder will be expected to be proactive in completing research duties, and to prioritise their own work schedule to accommodate the overall priorities of individuals, project teams and the Centre as a whole. It is expected that the post holder will use their own initiative and judgement to solve problems as they arise, but should report to the Deputy Director and Director for advice and guidance when necessary.

It is important that the post holder has a strong belief in the vision, aims and goals of the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues (www.jubileecentre.ac.uk).

Person Specification

  • PhD in education or relevant social science area
  • Previous quantitative research experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of character and virtues research
  • Extensive research experience and scholarship within subject specialism
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
  • Experience and achievement reflected in a growing reputation
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated success in planning, undertaking and project managing research to deliver high quality results
  • Extensive experience of applying and/or developing and devising successful models, techniques and methods


At Grade 7 to have:

  • A first degree in area of specialism and normally, a higher degree relevant to research area or equivalent qualifications)
  • Previous quantitative research experience
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
  • Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme and/or specific research project
  • Co-ordinate own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort
