The School of Chemistry and Molecular and Biosciences
The School of Chemistry and Molecular and Biosciences (SCMB) has an outstanding track record of attracting nationally and internationally competitive project, program and fellowship funding, publishing in high quality research outlets. It is well equipped for contemporary Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Microbiology research, and is supported by the University's outstanding molecular bioscience infrastructure, including protein production and characterization, macromolecular interaction analysis, mass spectrometry, proteomics, confocal microscopy, real-time microscopy, real-time PCR, metabolomics, microarray and experimental animal facilities.
The Kobe lab is now looking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with expertise in structural biology, preferably cryo-electron microscopy, to perform research on protein assemblies involved in mammalian innate immunity signalling.
The role
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will focus on research involving the characterization of three-dimensional structures of protein complexes involved in mammalian innate immunity pathways, in a collaborative NHMRC-funded project. The primary focus will involve protein production, structural characterization by cryo-electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography and other techniques, and protein-protein interaction analysis. Further details on the project are available from Prof Bostjan Kobe (b.kobe@uq.edu.au).
The person
Applicants should possess a PhD in the area of structural biology, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology or immunology. You should also have a strong desire to develop a successful and highly-productive research career in in protein science and cell biology, good general research skills, a strong methodological background, excellent statistical and analytical skills, very good writing abilities, and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams.
Remuneration
This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at Research Academic Level A or B, depending on the candidate's level of knowledge, skills and experience. The remuneration package will be in the range $79,170.68 – 84,985.56 p.a. for Research Academic Level A, or $89,458.97 – 106,232.23 p.a for Research Academic Level B, plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17%.
