CLINICAL RESEARCH WORKER (18 Month contract – Payclass 4)

The Desmond Tutu HIV Centre (DTHC), in the Faculty of Health Sciences at UCT, is committed to the pursuit of excellence in research, treatment, training and prevention of HIV and related infections in Southern Africa. This full-time 18 month fixed-term (T1) contract position will be based at Emavundleni Research Centre in Crossroads, Cape Town.
Requirements:
- Matric/Grade 12 and HIV counselling certificate through an accredited institution e.g. ATICC
- At least 2 years’ experience in a counselling or research environment
- Computer skills - Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook Express
- Excellent English/Xhosa/Afrikaans written, verbal communication and public speaking skills
- Strong client focus
- Excellent ability to build interpersonal relationships
- Ability to facilitate change
- High level of decision making and problem solving skills
- Good work ethics
Advantageous:
- Clinical research experience is advantageous
Responsibilities:
- Conduct informed consent process occurs as per study protocol requirements
- Administer study questionnaires as per study protocol requirements
- Provide HIV, TB and research protocol-specific counselling
- Run consent discussion groups as per study protocol, as required
- Complete records as per protocol and site requirements
- Educate clients, families and the community on HIV related issues
- Act as a translator when necessary
The annual remuneration package is negotiable between R92 280 and R161 140 dependent on skills and experience.
