Residence Head – Female Day Residence (Secondary position: 3-year contract)

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Create an inspirational space within the residence community
  • Manage and control the residence, including the establishment and/or maintenance of an academic learning culture within a diverse residence community
  • Manage the residence within the parameters of the stated vision, mission and strategic goals of the UFS and Student Affairs
  • Establish the residence as dynamic and diverse area within which transformative living and learning can take place
  • Implement value-driven management in the residence
  • Provide guidance to the residence committee
  • Implement the college initiative
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to students within the residence
  • Create a residence culture that is inclusive of diverse communities
  • Ensure the application of policies as conveyed by the department of Housing and Residence Affairs and Student Affairs


Inherent requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • A permanent full-time employee of the University of the Free State

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the University’s richly diverse working environment
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Strong administrative skills
  • A strong academic profile
  • Leadership development and crisis management skills
  • Facilitation skills
  • Ability to work in a group
  • Ability to provide guidance in a rapidly transforming environment and to manage the process of change
  • Willingness to work after hours in accordance with the rhythm of student life
