Job Details

We are seeking to appoint a postdoctoral Research Associate to undertake Mendelian randomization analyses of pathways between lifestyle behaviours and mental health, based in the Tobacco and Alcohol Research Group (http://www.bris.ac.uk/expsych/research/brain/targ/), part of the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit (http://www.bristol.ac.uk/integrative-epidemiology/) at the University of Bristol and the UK Centre for Tobacco and Alcohol Studies (http://www.ukctas.ac.uk/ukctas/index.aspx).

Research within the Tobacco and Alcohol Research Group focuses on the neurobiological and genetic basis of health-related behaviours, with two themes: the laboratory study of neurobiological pathways involved in health behaviours, and the large-scale longitudinal study of genetic and environmental influences on health behaviours. We use methods such as Mendelian randomization to elucidate the causal nature of these relationships.

The post holder will work collaboratively with researchers across the IEU, and with external collaborators. The work will utilise large-scale available datasets as well as in-house data, such as the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC, www.bris.ac.uk/alspac) cohort, and from initiatives such as the UK Biobank. Experience in genetic epidemiology, including Mendelian randomization analyses, is essential. We are particularly seeking applicants with a proven commitment to the principles and philosophy of Open Science.

The position is part-time (0.5 FTE) and available from 3rd October 2016. Funding is initially available until March 2018, with the expectation that it will be extended on review of the Unit.

For informal enquiries, please contact: Professor Marcus Munafò (marcus.munafo@bristol.ac.uk).
