The Broken Hill University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health Rural Multidisciplinary Health Program. The department operates a successful multidisciplinary rural clinical placement program for medical, nursing and allied health students in far western NSW, contributes to research into rural and remote health issues, and supports health service and community development in the region.

We are seeking to appoint an allied health academic to a lecturer position within occupational therapy. You will coordinate occupational therapy undergraduate/postgraduate student clinical placement programs to ensure optimal clinical learning experiences, including inter-professional learning opportunities, within Broken Hill and outlying communities including Menindee and Wilcannia, with an innovative primary health care focus.


In this role you will:

  • contribute to the development and operation of the department’s rural allied health placement program
  • contribute to curriculum development and management
  • maintain effective networks with Allied Health/multidisciplinary clinical/fieldwork providers and clinicians and ensure access to a range of high quality multidisciplinary clinical/fieldwork placements
  • contribute to educational support and pastoral care of students and clinical educators.

 
To succeed in securing this role you will have:

  • a degree in occupational therapy with professional registration in NSW ( if relevant) and eligibility for membership of relevant professional associations
  • excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders including at the professional level with allied health and primary health care service providers and high level negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • ability to work effectively as part of a team and to work towards agreed outcomes and demonstrated ability to work independently and with initiative
  • demonstrated high level organisational and administrative skills and ability to deal with competing demands and to deliver outcomes within strict timeframes
  • demonstrated high level supervisory skills
  • demonstrated interest to contribute to and pursue research within rural and remote health issues
  • experience in allied health professional practice settings
  • extensive experience with the supervision of allied health students
  • knowledge and experience of primary health care policy and practice.
