CARIM (Depts. of Physiology and Biochemistry) is looking for a PhD student for a project on the interaction of the coagulation system and atrial fibrillation.

CARIM (Dept. of Physiology and Dept. of Biochemistry) is currently conducting a large research programme on the interaction between the coagulation system and atrial fibrillation (eg Spronk et al, Eur Heart J 2016). Within this programme the mechanisms leading to the activation of coagulation by atrial fibrillation will be studied in established and clinically relevant large animal models (goats). Vice versa, the effect of hypercoagulability on the development of atrial fibrillation will be addressed. We are seeking a highly motivated PhD-student to perform a 4-years multidisciplinary research programme. The PhD-student will use a combined electrophysiological and biochemical approach and will be trained in both research areas jointly be the Depts. of Physiology and Biochemistry. The position will be embedded in a large Dutch network financed by the Dutch Heart Foundation (RACE V).

The candidates hold a master in medicine, biology, biomedical science or comparable. A solid education in basic science and academic ambition is an advantage. Excellent English skills are a prerequisite for this position.

Temporary employment for 4 years.

Your salary would be € 2.174,- gross per month in the first year up to € 2.779,- gross per month in the fourth year according to the PhD-student salary scale.

Each year an evaluation will take place.
