The Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (M+BS) is an internationally acclaimed provider of world-class education and research. M+BS is a research-intensive Faculty that has a budget of almost $300M. M+BS offers Australia's largest medical degree program for graduates and school-leavers. Undergraduate and postgraduate programs are available in the disciplines of Medicine, Health Sciences, eHealth, Mental Health, Biomedical Sciences and Public Health.

M+BS possesses enormous strengths spanning research, teaching, industry engagement and clinical practice in disciplines ranging from the basic sciences, biomedical research and development, to clinical trials and public health.  UQ has recently reorganised its Medical faculty structure to drive better student outcomes and student experience. As a result, this senior opportunity is available.

The role

The Head of the St Lucia Clinical Unit ("the Unit") is an important position within the Faculty of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences ("the Faculty"). The role reports to the Head of the School of Clinical Medicine ("the School") and provides academic leadership of the Faculty's flagship MD/MBBS ("medicine") program at the University of Queensland St Lucia campus.

The Unit Head will teach directly into activities of the Medicine program, and will also be responsible for the management of academics involved in the delivery of the medicine program at that Unit. A key purpose of the role is to champion, manage and review the delivery by these staff of teaching and learning experiences in the medicine program at the St Lucia Unit. In doing so, the role will maximise the quality of student outcomes, and to drive staff engagement and satisfaction.

The person

This is an exceptional opportunity for a teaching focused academic with experience in professional leadership and management in a clinical and/or teaching environment.  The successful applicant to this post will have demonstrated experience and capacity in the delivery of medical teaching, and an ability to establish effective relationships and work collaboratively with colleagues to represent and promote the interests of the School.  Medical qualifications are desirable.

Remuneration

This is a fixed-term appointment for 3 years at Academic Level C, part-time or full time (FTE to be negotiated with the successful applicant, between 0.6 FTE to 1 FTE). The salary will be in the range of $109,586 and $126,360 (full-time equivalent) plus 17% superannuation (total package in the range of $128,216 and $147,841 (full-time equivalent).
