By joining the Neuroscience department at Merck, you will engage in exciting drug discovery research targeting the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Working in synergy with all disciplines within R&D, you will contribute to the definition of novel and innovative strategies, targeting discovery of new treatments in the fields of Alzheimer’s disease and movement disorders. An expert in Neurobiology, you will work as part of a high profile team to apply advanced cell biology techniques to identify, validate and progress innovative novel drug targets. You will design and implement in vitro/in vivo models for target identification and mechanism of action studies.The position will also require 1) leading and serving as a core team member on drug discovery programs and 2) managing research associates.

An inspirational and outstanding scientist with an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit, you will demonstrate a true passion for cutting-edge science, and provide scientific input into the target portfolio. Additionally, the successful candidate will have exceptional communication skills and able to lead small, interdisciplinary groups of creative scientists.

Qualifications

Education:

- A Ph.D. in neurodegenerative diseases or related field within the neuroscience area with a minimum of 4 years of experience in academia or pharmaceutical industry

Required:

- A strong track record of achievement and experience of working on programs aimed at identifying novel treatments for neurodegenerative diseases.

- An international reputation for research excellence and can show evidence of research productivity. You have an in-depth knowledge of neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease and movement disorders.

Preferred:

- Deep expertise in a wide range of cell assays including experience using quantitative imaging technologies (fluorescence microscopy, high content screening).

- Addional skills in molecular biology including the use of viral vector systems in in vitro/in vivo models, shRNA, protein pull-down assay and the analysis of signaling pathways would be an added benefit.

- Experience developing practical research strategies, translate strategy into experiments, thrive in a team environment, communicate clearly and candidly, and work within high performing teams in a matrix organization.
