Job Details

Based in the School of Physics, you will work in the Centre for Device Thermography and Reliability (CDTR), on the thermal study of GaN microwave/RF and GaN power devices, diamond and two-dimensional materials. You will use leading thermal characterization methods developed in Bristol such as Raman thermography and transient reflectance, and develop new methods to advance the knowledge of thermal transport. While this is primarily an experimental post, it is desired that you combine the experimental knowledge with existing thermal models, and develop new thermal models. The CDTR group is active in many EU, US, and UK research programmes, and is funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the European Space Agency and other funding agencies as well as by industry.

For this research position, you will have postgraduate experience in physics, materials science or engineering, with a good publication record. The position requires expertise or interest in the development of optical characterization techniques and their application to materials and devices. A willingness to supervise postgraduate students will be necessary.

Bristol was voted the best city in England in terms of quality of life for employees in a survey of senior managers and board directors from 201 UK companies.

The Postdoctoral Researcher position is available for a period of at least two years with a starting salary in the £31,656 – 33,575 p.a. range, dependent on experience.
