JOB PURPOSE:

To be an active member of the research project team assisting in the planning and delivery of the knowledge exchange project: Preparing Cancer Caregivers to Cope: An Online Resource so that the overall objectives of the project are met. This study is an HSC RD Office funded Knowledge Exchange Study. The aim is to develop and evaluate an Information e resource for cancer caregivers which draw upon a substantial completed research piece. The focus of this project will be to develop and promote (with key stakeholders) an information e resource for cancer caregivers which will be delivered in the Clinical Setting.

 

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Assist in the development of the online information resource to include further development of content and implementation plans for HCPs.
  • Assist in the co-ordination of a project stakeholders group who will be centrally involved in the development of the resource.
  • Liaise with Media Services and external reprographics organisations to produce the resource.
  • Undertake an evaluation of the online information resource.
  • Ensure that the study complies with the ethics governance for the study.
  • Assist in designing and refining data collection tools [questionnaire, interviews and focus groups.
  • Conduct data collection in clinical sites.
  • Lead data analysis of qualitative data using NVIVO and quantitative data using SPSS.
  • Present regular progress reports on research to members of the research group or to external audiences to disseminate and publicise research findings. Assist in writing interim and final reports.
  • Assist in developing a proposal to rigorously evaluate the implementation of the resource to be submitted to external funding agencies.
  • Prepare, often in consultation with research team, material for publication in national and international journals and presentations at international conferences.
  • Carry out routine administrative tasks associated with the research project/s to ensure those project/s are completed on time and within budget.
  • These might include organisation of project meetings and documentation, financial control, risk assessment of research activities.
  • Ensure research resources are used in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Provide guidance as required to support staff and any students who may be assisting with research.
  • Contribute to the School’s outreach programme by establishing links with local community groups, industries etc. Join external networks to share information and ideas.

 

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Have or be about to obtain a relevant PhD.
  • At least three years recent relevant research experience in social sciences research.
  • Publication and research track record, commensurate with career stage.
  • Ability to contribute to broader management and administrative processes.
  • Contribute to the School’s outreach programme by links with industry, community groups etc.
  • Sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly.
  • Ability to build contacts and participate in internal and external networks.
  • Demonstrable intellectual ability.
  • Ability to assess and organise resources. Have previously worked on health or cancer research projects.
  • Familiarity with Cancer Services.
  • Online resource development experience.

 

 

 

 

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

  • Web page development experience.
  • Valid driving licence or some other suitable means of transport appropriate for the mobility needs of the post.
  • A willingness to travel within Northern Ireland.
