The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences at the University of Queensland (UQ) is one of Australia's leading schools for research and teaching in the disciplines of chemistry and biosciences (http://www.scmb.uq.edu.au/) and hosts a number of first-class research centres with modern research laboratories for state-of-the-art equipment and research infrastructure.  

The Role

A PhD scholarship is available within the Centre for Organic Photonics & Electronics, which is embedded in The University of Queensland's Schools of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences and Mathematics and Physics. The successful applicant will join a research program developing luminescent dendrimers for organic light-emitting diode based solid-state lighting. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain experience in spectroscopy, and work in an interdisciplinary team that includes theorists, synthetic chemists, and device physicists.

The Person

Applicants must hold, or be awarded by 30 June 2016, a 1st Class Honour degree or Masters degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry or Physics. Undergraduate training in luminescence spectroscopy is essential. Additional background experience in organic optoelectronics while not essential would be advantageous.

 Mandatory requirements for applicants:

  • Applicants must hold, or be awarded by 30 June 2016, a 1st Class Honours degree or Masters degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry or Physics.

  • Applicants must meet the University of Queensland's requirements for entry to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program, including English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements, detailed at http://www.uq.edu.au/grad-school/english-language-proficiency-requirements.

Remuneration

The stipend is equivalent to the APA rate, $26,288 per annum, (2016 rate, indexed annually). The scholarship will be for three (3) years with the possibility of a six (6)-month extension and is subject to the UQ Research Scholarship General Conditions.
