The Health Science Consultant (HSC) is a key member of the customer facing organization and plays a critical role in supporting Merck's customer centric business model. He/she is responsible for working with the Customer Team to understand and identify customer needs, support pull-through activities relative to the customer strategy, and ensure that Merck is viewed as demonstrating value and better health outcomes, quality improvement, implementation science and population health to healthcare professionals. In addition, the HSC demonstrates the highest level of product, disease, scientific knowledge and expertise in emerging healthcare disciplines and proficiently employs communication and account management competencies. This position reports to a Team Leader within the Vaccine Medical and Scientific Affairs Organization.

This territory covers Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi.

The ideal location to reside is Atlanta, GA.

The Health Science Consultant is responsible for but not limited to the following:

- Developing and maintaining long-term relationships with both regional and national medical thought leaders in academic medical centers, managed care institutions, centers of excellence, integrated delivery systems and scientific organizations in order to achieve mutually beneficial goals in the field of vaccines

- Identifying and developing national, regional and local advocates who can communicate objectives and balanced scientific evidence that is consistent with our corporate objectives during medical education programs

- Developing and employing creative strategies for addressing the specific needs of key academic, national and regional opinion leaders within integrated health systems, quality improvement organizations, schools of public health/pharmacy/nursing and managed care customers

- Serving as a conduit for open communication between key thought leaders and Merck & Co.

- Ensuring participation and cooperation of national and regional advocates in key activities

- Serving as a scientific consultant to and collaborator with field personnel and extended teams from Merck in order to support commercial initiatives and improved patient outcomes

- Communicating about disease burden, vaccine effectiveness and implementation science in a way that's meaningful and relevant to each individual customer; customize discussions and client interactions based on understanding of customer's needs

- Establish relationships with key healthcare institutions (integrated delivery systems, physician practices, ACOs, public health organizations) to provide knowledge & expertise in population health, quality improvement, implementation science, behavior change science, and organizational change principles, strategies and tools to provide education on data analysis, assessment, and guiding principles to develop plans/processes for sustainable improvement to vaccination rates

- Maintain a collaborative working relationship and communication with commercial and other colleagues to develop appropriate joint customer goals and strategies to meet quality improvement & implementation science needs with prioritized customers

- Find and develop population health, quality improvement, implementation science speaker faculty to effectively deliver Merck Medical Education to HCPs

- Serve as an implementation and quality improvement expert and collaborator with field personnel and extended teams from Merck in order to support commercial initiatives and improved population health goals

- Ensure compliance with all corporate and regulatory policies and procedures

Qualifications

Education:

- Required: BA/BS

- Preferred: MBA/BSN/NP/PhD/PharmD or other professional/educational background in medically related sciences, clinical areas, or public health

Required:

- Up to 10% Overnight Travel depending on location of residence

- Valid Driver's license

Preferred:

- Deep knowledge of vaccines and related policy, clinical application and experience, and/or healthcare reform trends

- Experience in Quality Improvement, Population Health and/or Implementation Science

- Experience with Health Information Technology (HIT)

- Experience in healthcare delivery systems

- Excellent communication and presentation skills across multi-functional and multi-organizational teams.
