The University of Auckland School of Nursing was established in 2000 to foster clinical learning within a multidisciplinary environment. The School contributes to the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences vision of improving the health of communities through excellence in the development of the next generation of health care leaders, educators, researchers and clinicians.

Following the retirement of our current Head of School, we are now seeking applications from suitably qualified individuals for the position of Professor/Associate Professor in Nursing. The appointee will become Head of School for a fixed term period of five years (which may be renewable).

The successful applicant will provide leadership to the School, and to the profession nationally. Working with a well experienced management team, oversee the teaching and administrative structures of the School; building both the cohort of graduate students and research profile of Nursing in line with the goals and objectives of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. 

The model of postgraduate education provided by the School is unique in the way that it works in partnership with clinical areas to provide a high standard of academic programmes. A number of School of Nursing academic staff hold joint appointments as clinical practitioners, and clinicians hold honorary positions in the school and teach our students, ensuring our programmes are clinically focused and relevant.

The School has 53 full time equivalent academic staff, and eight professional staff, the School currently has an annual intake of 100 undergraduate students per year (230 EFTS across three years), and up to 1000 postgraduates (550 EFTS, including those engaged in the Nurse Practitioner programme and 25 PhD students).

It is preferrable that the applicant will be PhD qualified and have a nursing qualification suitable for registration in New Zealand. Excellent communication, strategic and staff leadership skills are required, along with the ability to interact and collaborate productively with other units within the University, external stakeholders and government agencies.
