Recruitment Notice of Shanghai Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics

Shanghai Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics was founded in 1984 by Pro. Qian Weichang, pioneer of modern mechanics in China. The institute has a key discipline of Ministry of Education (Fluid Mechanics), a key plateau discipline of Shanghai Municipality (Mechanics), a key discipline of Shanghai Municipality (Solid Mechanics) and key laboratories for application of mechanics in energy engineering. An excellent talents cultivation system with advanced research facilities is formed.

In order to promote the development of the institute，improve scientific research level and expand international competitiveness and influence, now we launch this notice to recruit a director who should be a high-end scientific research elite with global vision and academic leadership from both China or overseas countries.

I. Job qualifications

1. Candidates should have following qualities: dedicated to his work; have a realistic and pragmatic attitude; rigorous scholarship; have strong ambition, team spirit and work ethics; have strong organizing, managing, coordinating and decision-making capacities.

2. Candidates should have an international academic vision and the competence to promote the development of this discipline rapidly and effectively.

3. Candidates should have great academic reputation and influence, whose achievements should earn recognition from their counterparts at both home and abroad.

4. Domestic candidates should be academicians, members of the national “one thousand talents plan”, Changjiang scholars, winners of Award for Outstanding Youth Foundation or discipline leading professor. As to overseas candidates, they should be professors from prestigious universities, research institutes and so on.

II. Job responsibilities

1. The director is responsible for scientific research, talents cultivation, discipline construction and administration management. He or she should formulate developing plans for the discipline and improve the systems of scientific research, talents cultivation and administration management.

2. The director is responsible for recruiting influential leading academics and discipline scholars, cultivating excellent middle-aged and young teachers, building up a high qualified teacher team.

3. The director is responsible for discipline construction and academic team and organization of scientific researchers to carry out researches at academic frontiers. He or she should respond to the requirements of national key strategies, undertake national key scientific research projects, publishing scientific research results on high-level domestic and foreign so that the academic reputation and influence of the institute can be raised.

III Recruitment procedures

1. Candidates should first fill in an application form and prepare the following materials:

(1) Copies of relevant certificates such as academic degree certificates, professional qualification certificates and various awards certificates.

(2) CV: including one’s education background, working experience, scientific research projects and publications in the recent five years.

5. Sign the contract.

IV Term of employment and remuneration

1. Each term lasts for three years (One-year probation).

2. Remuneration shall conform to relevant national and university regulations. Details are negotiable.

V Management and appraisal

1. The new director should conform to relevant regulations and rules by Shanghai University and accept the supervision and management of relevant departments.

2. Director target-oriented responsibility system and director appraisal system will be established.
