RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will promote, monitor and provide support regarding teaching, learning and assessment excellence within the University. This will entail:

  • Use of in-depth knowledge of education theories and processes to guide and advance the Faculty in education development;
  • Application of knowledge of international trends in education innovation and electronic learning to support the Faculty in meeting the University strategic goals;
  • Stakeholder management and liaison with key role-players within the University and in the Faculty;
  • Empowerment of academic staff through coaching and more formal professional development initiatives;
  • Change and impact management in a higher education environment with regard to curriculum development, teaching, learning and assessment best practices;
  • Development, design and application of teaching, learning and assessment practice and policy;
  • Support to staff by rendering an education consultation service which incorporates different implementation strategies;
  • Implementation and management of timely feedback on the Faculty’s outputs and practices;
  • Conducting research in order to stay abreast of trends and knowledge.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Appropriate Master’s degree with five years’ education or training related experience and three years’ experience in staff development.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Relationship management and liaison;
  • Experience in curriculum development in higher education;
  • Experience in the development of teaching and assessment best practices;
  • Experience in co-ordinating and facilitating training intervention and rendering support to academic staff;
  • Experience in education consultancy in higher education and project management;
  • Language proficiency and negotiation skills;
  • Knowledge of how to manage impact of change management in higher education;
  • Insight into the functioning and structures of a faculty or other academic units;
  • Experience in education practice and education technology;
  • Expertise in identifying, analyzing, planning and supporting lecturers with regard to possibilities of flexi-learning environments;
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current trends and future scenarios for higher education with consideration given to important innovations, including the potential of technology changes for teaching, learning and assessment.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • A first degree in Health Sciences;
  • Expertise in blended and on-line learning;
  • Expertise in work-integrated assessment;
  • Experience at a tertiary institution;
  • Experience in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

 

The total remuneration package for this position ranges from approximately R 572 402 to R 710 073 as determined by UP policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
