 Advanced Water Management Centre

The Advanced Water Management Centre (AWMC) is at the leading edge of environmental biotechnology related to water and wastewater management and treatment. We have over 100 research staff and students based at the University of Queensland's St. Lucia Campus. The AWMC has established a substantial niche in the interdisciplinary fields of biological science and chemical process engineering. The centre has an international reputation with >60 international journal publications per year, and a similar number of conference presentations, and excellent funding successes from the Australian Research Council and industry (>$7M total income per year over the last 3 years).

The Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences (QAEHS) is a new university-wide multidisciplinary Centre, funded jointly by Queensland Health and the University of Queensland, to conduct research into all aspects of interactions between the environment and human health, that includes toxicology, microbiology, epidemiology, and integrated environmental health.

As part of the QAEHS, the AWMC collaborates on research projects focused on environmental microbiology aspects relating to public and environmental health. A major focus of AWMC research is the understanding and control of biofilms in various engineered water systems.

The role

The successful applicant will provide technical support for our research teams working on control of biofilms in various engineered water systems and will review the relevant research and perform investigations that will include the detection, quantification and cultivation of microorganisms from water samples

The person

Applicants should possess an undergraduate degree in microbiology, molecular biology, biotechnology or related areas.

You should have experience in laboratory and field based investigations relating to microbial ecology, molecular microbiology, and microbial biofilms

Remuneration

This is a part-time (50% full time equivalent), fixed term appointment at HEW level 5 until 30/06/2018.

The remuneration package will be in the range $62,716.31- $70,241.69 p.a. (full time equivalent) plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $73,378.08- $82,182.78 p.a. (full time equivalent).
