The Centre for Conservation and Biodiversity Science
The University of Queensland (UQ) is seeking one or more senior scientists in order to strengthen its leading position in ecology and conservation science.
The Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Science (CBCS) works in partnership with scientists, global institutions and organisations, governments, non-governmental organisations and industry to solve conservation problems around the world. The centre has produced pioneering interdisciplinary knowledge and tools that have permeated on-ground environmental management globally. CBCS also comprises two multi-million dollar UQ-led centres, specifically the ARC Centre of Excellence for Environmental Decisions (CEED) and the Threatened Species Hub of the National Environmental Science Program (NESP). The Centre has been instrumental in UQ achieving exceptional global rankings in the environment/ecology space.
The successful candidate(s) will join CBCS and depending on background may lead the Centre or one or more of its component centres. Academic researchers in CBCS are appointed in either the School of Biological Sciences or the School of Geography, Planning and Environmental Management (GPEM), both within the Faculty of Science.
The role
The successful appointee(s) will play a leading role in research of biodiversity and conservation science at UQ, and be responsible for developing strategy, expanding networks and cultivating partnerships and supporting solutions-oriented collaborative interdisciplinary research.
The person
Applicants should possess qualifications in relevant disciplines. They should also have a strong desire to further develop a successful and highly-productive research career in conservation biology and biodiversity, excellent research skills, a strong methodological background, excellent statistical and analytic skills, very good writing abilities, and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams. Depending on the interests and experience of the successful candidate, they may be offered the role of Director of CBCS.
Remuneration
This is a full-time, continuing appointment at Academic Level E. An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate including 17% superannuation.
