AMX Systems Developer/Administrator

Reporting to the Team Lead of Repair and Deployment, the AMX systems developer/administrator is responsible for the development, maintenance, troubleshooting, incident resolution, archiving and renewals of all critical classroom technology to support the University’s mission of world class teaching and learning.

There are over 500 classrooms, computer labs and meeting spaces that use AMX on University of Alberta campuses. The number of AMX Devices the Repair and Deployment Team is currently responsible for maintaining is approximately 1200 and growing. There are various versions of designed systems using different combinations of code, touch panels and AMX devices throughout the campuses. The AMX systems developer/administrator helps with the installation, troubleshooting and repair of audio visual equipment and systems at University of Alberta.

Duties

• Designs/develops/operates the standard of AMX function and work flow of teaching and learning for instructors, students, and users
• Designs/develops/operates the standards of archival directories of both new and existing AMX control system code and touch panel design files for University of Alberta Campuses
• Creates the standards of documentation for archiving usage of best practices
• Develops AMX control system codes and touch panel interface designs for classrooms, labs, and other rooms on campus on a project basis
• Uploads the AMX Netlinx code and touch panel files to AMX systems
• Commissions AMX programming, TP design, and AMX controller systems  
• Assists with hardware installations, security and configurations of AMX controller systems  
• Communicates with the Networking and Telecom teams for IP addressing and SIP addressing for TP intercom
• Supports the deployment team for the commissioning phase of new and renewed rooms for addressing programming/device configuration issues that may occur
• Assists level 2 R&D technicians with administration of Central Resource Management Suite Virtual Server infrastructure
• Monitors and reviews system activity logs
• Addresses AMX Ticket incidents and performs root cause analysis to implement resolutions
• Maintains existing master list of all AMX info on campus
• Helps develop standards for AMX architecture on campus
• Documents systems configuration
• Performs other duties as required

Qualifications

• The ideal candidate will have a 2 year technical diploma; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
• Two to three years of related experience in installation, testing, implementation and decommissioning of related AMX
• Programming (scripting) experience with Netlinx code; training/education in objected oriented programming language (equivalent C, C++, C#, Java)
• Experience in post-secondary environment is considered an asset
• Proven experience administering large numbers of systems in an enterprise environment
• Knowledge of the following audio visual equipment and systems:
  • Video
  • Audio
  • Control
• Understanding of ITIL considered an asset
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Ability to troubleshoot windows and Mac based computer hardware problems
• Ability to prioritize and manage workload effectively
• Knowledge of safe installation and maintenance practices
• Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
