Job Details

Applications are invited for a Research Associate in the experimental neutrino physics group within the High Energy Particle Physics group in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

You will work alongside Professors Lee Thompson and Neil Spooner on the group’s neutrino programme, specifically on the T2K, HyperKamiokande and SBND experiments. The group’s activities on these current and next generation experiments cover a broad range of topics including, e.g. the analysis of events containing neutral pions in CC and NC interactions in T2K, the development of calibration sources for HK, supernovae models and fluxes in SK/HK, anti-neutrino sensitivity via Gadolinium doping in water Cerenkov detectors, calibration with cosmic rays in SBND and proto-DUNE, event reconstruction studies in liquid argon detectors, and sterile neutrino analysis within the Fermilab short baseline multi-experiment framework.

You will have a PhD and, ideally, some postdoctoral experience in Particle Physics, a good knowledge of C++, programming skills and experience in programming within a particle physics or similar environment. You are also expected to be familiar with experimental techniques used in particle and nuclear physics such as Monte Carlo methods, statistical methods, and data analysis.

Travel to the experimental sites in Japan and the United States will be required, with approximately two to three trips per year. The post is available to start immediately for a fixed term period of 3 years.
