Lecturer / Senior Lecturer

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Present lectures and conduct assessments of both undergraduate and post-graduate students in Animal Nutrition
  • Supervise and guide post-graduate students
  • Participate in community service
  • Recruit post-graduate students in Animal Nutrition
  • Source external research funding
  • Perform administrative tasks as allocated
  • Inherent requirements:

    Lecturer:

    • M.Sc. Agric (Animal Nutrition, with Digestive Physiology)
    • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
    • Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.
    • A good academic record

    Senior Lecturer:

    • PhD (Animal Nutrition, with Physiology)
    • Proven experience in the presentation of papers/posters at national scholarly conferences.
    • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
    • An NRF rating or demonstrate potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
    • Proven experience in supervision of graduated masters students.
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
    • Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.

    Recommendations:

    Lecturer:

    • Willingness to enrol for a doctoral degree at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of appointment
    • Proven knowledge of nutrition of farm animals and the functioning of their digestive systems, specifically ruminants and monogastric animals, including hindgut fermenters
    • Proven experience and recognition in relevant Animal Nutrition research activities
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the University’s richly diverse working environment
    • Experience in teaching at tertiary level

    Senior Lecturer

  • Experience and recognition in relevant Animal Nutrition research activities
  • Research outputs in accredited journals
  • A NRF rating or demonstrated potential for obtaining a NRF rating
  • Experience in the supervision of M.Sc. and PhD studies in Animal Nutrition / Digestive Physiology
  • Registration at the SA Council for Natural Scientists
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the University’s richly diverse working environment
  • Experience in teaching at tertiary level
  • Assumption of duties:
