Reporting to the Associate Director, Design & Technical Services, within the Planning & Project Delivery group, the Site & Facilities Technologist develops and maintains the information in the University’s data systems for Site and Facilities data such as, AutoCAD, drawing inventory, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) Systems.  The purpose of this position is to provide design and technical support to the University’s capital, maintenance, renovation, and planning projects.

Duties

  • Develops, manages and maintains Utility and site related drawings for all University Sites (presently in AutoCAD)
  • Develops and maintains technical GIS standards for Facilities & Operations (F&O) in consultation with other Design and Technical Services staff
  • Evaluates and audits all drawings/models that are drafted for submission to the University, ensuring that F&O standards are met
  • Updates drawings as new data are received relative to University buildings, and capital, maintenance, renovation and planning projects
  • Develops and produces maps (AutoCAD and future GIS implementation) including the design and implementation of digital and hard-copy maps 
  • Conducts the design process and develops documents for capital, maintenance, renovation and planning projects in a BIM environment
  • Models designs solutions and prepares construction documents
  • Manages and maintains technical records (Drawings, Operation & Maintenance Manuals, soils reports, etc.) that are checked into the University Infrastructure Records Access Program (UIRAP)
  • Provides System Admin support, including external University access control and quality control (QC) checks for other staff checking data into the UIRAP system
  • Reviews and assesses construction documentation from external sources to ensure quality control and compliance with University standards
  • Responds to day-to-day requests for technical records and analysis from both internal UofA staff and external Consultants work on UofA projects
  • Contributes to operation efficiencies: demonstrates continuous efforts to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work in a cooperative environment to provide quality seamless service


Qualifications

  • Postsecondary education in Civil Engineering Technology or Architectural
  • Five years of experience in developing and maintaining AutoCAD, GIS and BIM data and systems
  • Experience in urban planning
  • Experience in analyzing spatial data and translating user requirements into appropriate GIS reports and thematic maps
  • Experience working with construction drawings for buildings and sites 
  • Excellent working knowledge of Computer Aided Design & Drafting (CADD) practices, techniques, equipment and software (AutoCAD)
  • Production user experience with GIS software (ESRI) and BIM software (REVIT)
  • Knowledge of construction practices and design trends, current building systems, materials and building codes
  • Sufficient design and visualization skills to create professional drawings for presentation purposes 
  • Knowledge of database design
