Network Analyst

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, supports a complex multi-site, multi-vendor enterprise network.  This is a senior position in the MedIT team which demands individuals who have the ability to provide quality network hardware/software support, handle high pressure situations and make complex recommendations/decisions on a wide range of situations.  In addition, these senior positions in the team provide lead hand training and support to the junior positions. 

Reporting to the IT Manager, the Network Analyst will be responsible for all network and security infrastructures including design, support, monitoring, and ongoing security analysis and troubleshooting. This position will provide technical experience and expertise in monitoring, preventing, responding to and resolving network and application security related problems.  The successful candidate will have extensive expertise in enterprise networks, security, and load balancing technologies including HP switches/routers, Citrix NetScaler and Fortinet firewalls. 

Duties

• Designs, implements, maintains, troubleshoots, documents and supports all network and security systems on the enterprise Faculty network
• Responsible for investigation, root cause analysis, and coordinating internal and external resources to implement solutions and facilitate problem resolution
• Creates and updates customer support tickets
• Responsible for proactive network monitoring including capacity planning
• Functions as an escalation point for complex network problems
• Interfaces with key support personnel including key partners from UofA Information Services and Technology (IST), AHS Information Services and vendors
• Provides 24/7 on-call support on a rotation basis as required
• Monitors progress and due dates, escalates potential problems early and communicates them effectively to stakeholders or managers
• Proposes technical and business process solutions to increase efficiency and implements approved changes
• Works with the team to identify new technology and design initiatives
• Defines security requirements; performs risk assessments; establishes and maintains security controls; monitors and evaluates security measures
• Maintains and supports enforcement of information security policies, procedures, standards and guidelines based on knowledge of best practices and compliance requirements
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• The ideal candidate will have a degree in Computing Science; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
• Minimum 7 years of work-related experience in a large complex enterprise IT environment
• Demonstrate Expert level knowledge of networks, security, and load balancing technologies
• Extensive experience with multiple and complex customer interactions
• Ability to handle high volumes and work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
• Ability to make quick reliable decisions and exercise judgment based on facts available
• Disciplined self-starter who regularly sets and achieves work goals
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills required
• Strong problem solving and time management skills
• Exceptional analytical skills and judgment to identify issues, develop options, and propose appropriate solutions 
• A positive and responsible attitude with creative strategic thinking and willingness to learn new technologies
• Knowledge of health care or university environments
• Experience with Fortinet Firewall management
• Experience with VMware and Citrix virtual network environments
• Experience with Netscaler Load Balancers
• CISSP, CCSP, CCNP, HP ASE certification
• ITIL certification is an asset
