Reporting to the Senior IT Team Lead, the Network and Systems Analyst (NSA) designs, develops and troubleshoots technology solutions for the Faculty of Engineering. The incumbent is responsible for a broad array of responsibilities related to hardware and software systems, including installation, maintenance, and life cycles. The NSA must have subject matter expertise in several operating systems, knowledge of imaging technologies and virtualization platforms as well as a good understanding of directory migration tools and networking infrastructure. The NSA supports public and private computing learning and teaching spaces including classroom and computer labs, and provides support for FOE infrastructure including licensing, servers, patch servers, anti-virus and others.

Duties

  • Installs operating system software, patches and upgrades; performs installation, maintenance and support of system software/hardware and user support
  • Analyzes, troubleshoots and resolves system hardware, software and networking issues
  • Develops, maintains and supports technical infrastructure, hardware and system software components
  • Responsible for configuring, optimizing, fine-tuning and monitoring operating system software and servers
  • Performs system backups and recovery
  • Translates user and/or systems requirements in to functional technical specifications
  • Responsible for server builds, monitoring, acquisition, management, etc.
  • Installs and maintains financial database; consults faculty regarding technological requirements for research; assists faculty with grant acquisitions for hardware and software
  • Supports the Microsoft Active Directory (AD) environment within the public and private teaching and learning spaces
  • Designs, installs, configures and maintains the Faculty of Engineering's virtual server environment
  • Installs and configures VMware Software
  • Performs application installation, configuration and maintenance of SAN (Storage Area Network), SCSI devices and FibreChannel devices
  • Manages network attached MFPs and printer accounting database
  • Manages Windows Server operating systems and UNIX operating systems
  • Ensures perimeter and server security; installs, configures and manages firewall (Fortinet, OpenBSD, TippingPoint Trend Micro) and other security appliances
  • Manages physical security of network and computing systems; drafts and enforces network and computing security policies; investigates system abuse and security related incidents
  • Writes and maintains detailed systems documentation, including user and technical manuals


Qualifications

  • BSc. in Computer Science; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • 3 years of experience in a complex multi-platform environment with expertise in Microsoft Windows 2012 servers, Microsoft Active Directory and Windows 7
  • Certification as a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) and/or Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) is highly desirable
  • Proficient in administering UNIX systems
  • Scripting skills such as Shell, Perl and Awk
  • HP network certification
  • Microsoft certifications: Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)
  • Project management certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Security certifications: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Virtualization certifications: VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
  • ASP, C#, Java, .NET, PHP, Python, Ruby on Rails
  • Windows 7, Windows 10
  • Knowledge of MAC OS and Netboot technology Open Directory (OD)
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) as well as the ability to work independently
