Job Details

International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is growing in size and influence in pursuit of its vision to be a leading international business school. The school is based on strong principles of internationalism, innovation, inspiration and integrity, which together ensure that we have a positive impact on society through our teaching, research and business engagement. In that pursuit, IBSS recently became the youngest business school to be accredited from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International), an accolade that has been earned by less than five percent of the world's business schools.

IBSS delivers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, PhD and Executive Education programmes in the fields of Economics, Management, Accounting and Finance. Undergraduate programmes in Economics include both the widely popular BSc in Economics and BSc in Economics & Finance, whereas Master’s programmes include the MSc in Economics, MSc in Economics & Finance and MSc in Business Analytics. The MSc in Economics leads to a research-oriented PhD programme. The Economics group in IBSS initiated the university-wide Research Institute for Economic Integration (RIEI), which is a platform for research focused on the integration between and within Asian economies, Europe and the Pacific. IBSS currently has around 90 academic staff and more than 2,500 students, and is growing every year. As it continues to expand, IBSS now seeks to appoint further academic leaders and this, in turn, offers an exhilarating opportunity for academics from around the world to play a part in leading this unique institution’s academic growth.

Applicants with a research interest either in economics or related interdisciplinary disciplines will be considered. We particularly welcome applications from the fields of Macroeconomics, Financial Economics and Mathematical Economics who have strong Econometrics background. Furthermore, applicants interested in teaching Economics in MBA level are also encouraged.

Successful applicants will have a PhD and a track record of publication or the potential to produce high-quality research outputs. Candidates for the position of Associate Professor should also have a track record of excellence in teaching and academic supervision, as well as an international research profile and a successful record of research funding. Teaching experience at postgraduate level would be particularly welcomed.

The salary range for the positions is 31,166 – 42,546 RMB/month (Associate Professor), and 19,971 – 30,701 RMB/month (Lecturer). In addition, members of academic staff are entitled to accommodation and travel allowances, medical insurance, and relocation expenses. Overseas staff may receive a “tax holiday” of up to three years, depending on nationality and personal circumstances.

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a unique collaborative institution, the first, and the only, university in China to offer both UK (University of Liverpool) and Chinese (Ministry of Education) accredited undergraduate degrees. Formed in 2006, the first cohort of students graduated in August 2010. XJTLU aims to become truly research-led, and has committed significant investment into research development. Almost 10,000 students are currently enrolled in the university. The language of instruction is English.

XJTLU is located in the Higher Education Town of Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), well-connected via nearby airports to cities such as Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, and Taipei, and via high-speed rail to other major cities in China. It is 25 minutes away from Shanghai by high- speed train. SIP is a major growth zone, including operations run by nearly one-fifth of the Fortune 500 top global companies. Greater Suzhou is now the fourth largest concentration of economic activity in China in terms of GDP.

Applications should be received by 25th September, 2016. Informal inquiries should be addressed to Head of Economics, Dr Nimesh Salike at nimesh.salike@xjtlu.edu.cn.
