Job Details

The Department of Occupational Therapy invites applications from skilled, innovative and self-motivated Occupational Therapists to join this dynamic and innovative department.  Applicants are required to work well in a team, and to work independently with minimal supervision.

Requirements:

  • A recognized undergraduate degree in Occupational Therapy.  A Master’s Level qualification would be an advantage.
  • Current registration with the HPCSA.
  • At least three years clinical experience in the field of the psychiatry.
  • Some experience in the clinical supervision of students.
  • Valid driver’s license.

 

Responsibilities

Teaching

  • Contribute to the teaching associated with the OT intervention for clients with psychiatric disorders and supervision of students in the fieldwork associated with this teaching.
  • Contribute to the development and the maintaining of standards of the undergraduate Problem Based Learning educational program.

 

Administration and Management.

  • Contribute to the general promotion and development of the department and the profession within the school, university and community.
  • Administration around student marks, fieldwork and examination timetables.

 

Research

  • Develop a research profile, publish annually and contribute to the departmental research program.

 

Professional Development

  • Develop professional knowledge and skill as a therapist, academic and educator.

 

Detailed Responsibilities in Teaching and Administration and Management:

Teaching

  • Contribute to the development and the maintaining of standards of the undergraduate Problem Based Learning educational program.
  • Contribute to the undergraduate in the psychiatric field including occupational analysis and the Vona du Toit Model of Creative Ability..
  • Facilitate a number of problems across the curriculum.
  • Supervision of students in the junior and senior years.
  • Contribute to the development and support of students through mentoring, academic support, especially students in the junior years.
  • Assist senior students with their research projects as required.

 

Administration and Management.

  • Contribute to the general promotion and development of the department and the profession within the school, university and community.
  • Contribute to the development of a cohesive teaching team within the department, to organize fieldwork placements, develop problems, curriculum books and course outlines.
  • Set and mark tests and examinations, compile marks and organize and co-ordinate fieldwork blocks.
  • Work closely with clinical supervisors to enhance the clinical experience of the students.
  • Contribute to department meetings.
  • Contribute to the development of the profession.
