Job Details

The Department of Engineering Mathematics, based within the Merchant Venturers’ School of Engineering, is seeking to appoint a full time Teaching Fellow on a Fixed Term contract. The primary responsibilities of the post are: to contribute to teaching on the Engineering Maths undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes; to supervise student projects; to pursue pedagogical research, developing and evaluating new teaching methods for deployment within the Department and for potential transfer to other departments within the School, Faculty, and University, and where appropriate to contribute to the academic literature on engineering pedagogy.

We seek an exceptional team worker who can strengthen and build collaborations across the University and beyond, with an excellent emerging track record in engineering teaching and learning pedagogy, and who is a good fit with the culture within the Department. The Department is located within the Merchant Venturers’ School of Engineering (MVSE), along with the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Engineering Mathematics. MVSE is one of the two schools in Bristol’s Faculty of Engineering.

You will have an excellent teaching record and a growing international profile in engineering mathematics pedagogy. Previous experience of design and delivery of high-quality undergraduate and graduate teaching, supervising student projects leading to thesis submission, and securing appropriate grant funding are all desirable, but will be judged on the opportunities that have been available to you in previous posts.

This post is being offered on a part time, fixed term contract up to 31 July 2017 in the first instance.

For informal discussion about the post please contact:

Professor Alan Champneys (Acting Head of Department, Engineering Maths): mvse-emat-hod@bristol.ac.uk
or
Prof Dave Cliff (Head of School, MVSE): mvse-hos@bristol.ac.uk

It is expected that interviews will take place in September 2016.
