Job Details
Queensland Brain Institute
Established in 2003, QBI (www.qbi.uq.edu.au) is housed on the St Lucia campus of UQ. It is home to more than 450 staff, including 41 group leaders, working across a range of disciplines, who are focused on discovering the fundamental mechanisms that regulate brain development and function in health and disease.
Over the past decade QBI has become one of the world's leading neuroscience research institutes. It played a key role in contributing to UQ attaining the highest possible score of 5 for neuroscience, in the 2010, 2012 and 2015 Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) reviews, one of only two universities in Australia to achieve this.
The role
The purpose of this position is to lead projects evaluating novel immune-based targets for Alzheimer's disease. Projects will focus on aspects of innate/adaptive immune systems, learning/memory, synaptic function/plasticity, lipid metabolism, proteomic/metabolomics discovery, and endocytic dysfunction.
The person
The candidate must have a PhD in the area of neuroscience, pharmacology, immunology or molecular biology at the time of appointment. Experience in animal models of neurodegeneration is required, particularly knowledge of animal surgeries and behavioural testing. Experience studying both amyloid and tau neuropathology, and with adeno-associated virus (AAV)-based approaches (in vivo and in vitro), will be highly regarded. In addition, some familiarity or ideally hands on experience with state-of-the-art techniques in stereotactic surgeries, brain microdissection, microscopy (stereology and confocal), FACS, meso scale discovery, and RNAseq is required. It is also expected that the successful candidate will make competitive applications for both independent and collaborative funding to support their research focus.
Remuneration
This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at Academic level A or B for up to 12 months. Level of appointment will be commensurate with qualification, experience and academic achievements.
The remuneration package will be in the range of:
- Academic Level A - $79,170 - $84,985 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range of $92,629 - $99,433 p.a.)
- Academic Level B - $89,458 - $106,232 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range of $104,667 - $124,291 p.a.)
