Carilion Clinic, along with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) and Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute (VTCRI), seeks a highlyregarded physician-scientist to lead the Section of Neurology into the next phase of academic and clinical development.  Carilion Clinic is a multi-specialty physician led healthcare organization made up of more than 650 physicians in Roanoke, Virginia.  On the same campus and in its seventh year are the highly successful VTCSOM and the VTCRI with a cadre of NIH funded scientists in the fields of neurosciences, cardiovascular sciences, immunology and infectious diseases.

Practice & Research:

  • Oversee the continued maturation of the Neurology program through faculty development and recruitment, improve access, and extend the scope of services to a population of over 1 million people within the catchment area.
  • Foster the teaching and educational mission of the VTCSOM
  • Bridge support and develop research programs within the Section and with Virginia Tech, including with the VTCSOM and the VTCRI.
  • On the clinical side you will be leading a team of eight Neurologists and collaborating with nineNeurosurgeons
  • The Section of Neurology has an ACGME accredited Neurology Residency, which will be in its second year, with three positions per year.
  • VTCRI has 25 faculty research team leaders in structural biology, molecular neurobiology, human cognitive and computational neuroscience, molecular virology, tumor biology and genetics, cardiac and regenerative medicine. The institute has state-of-the-art facilities in functional brain imaging multiple research dedicated MRIs, molecular biology cores, high field cryo- electron microscopy,electrophysiology, computational and high capacity data analysis/storage, human cognitive/behavioral assessment facilities,  and a vivarium.

Start-up packages, laboratory facilities and support are highly competitive.

  • Roanoke is the commercial and entertainment hub of Southwest, VA and portions of Southern West Virginia

Requirements:

The successful candidate will be or have:

  • MD / Ph.D. (preferable), or MD
  • BC in Neurology [or Child Neurology] by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • Virginia Medical License by the time of employment
  • Track record of high impact research productivity and ongoing NIH research grant funding
  • Potential areas of interest include (but are not limited to) seizure disorders, movement disorders, neuropsychiatric/cognitive disorders, neuroimmune disorders and neurodegenerative disease.
