The Senior Specialist position will report to the Technical Operations Department and will initially provide process development support as part of a multidisciplinary team for an investigational drug. The candidate will have knowledge of and experience with: microbial fermentation, protein purification and analytical techniques used to support these processes. Examples of assignment opportunities include:

Characterize proteins with a variety of analytical techniques
*
Modify and purify proteins at laboratory scale
*
Develop and optimize analytical methods used to support commercial manufacturing
*
Provide technical and analytical support for commercial scale in-line products
*
Perform and lead laboratory scale process characterization studies
*
Provide process improvement and development support for in-line products
*
Write and review technical documents and laboratory notebooks
*
Author and provide input for regulatory filings
Qualifications
Education Minimum Requirement:
*
PhD degree in a relevant scientific discipline (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biochemical Engineering) and 0 to 2 years of industry experience OR an MS degree in a relevant scientific discipline and +5 years of laboratory and/or industry experience.
Required Experience and Skills:
*
Experience working with and purifying proteins (purification, characterization/analysis, modification).
*
Experience characterizing small and large molecules using a variety of analytical techniques (LC/MS, RP-HPLC, UPLC, ITC, spectroscopy, SDS-PAGE, ELISA).
*
Excellent collaborative and team working skills as well as ability to work independently
*
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
*
Driven to succeed and to help others do the same
*
Ability to produce high quality work against firm deadlines
Preferred Experience and Skills:
*
Experience working in a GMP environment
*
Experience working in an industry environment
*
Experience conducting laboratory scale process characterization studies using Design of Experiments (DoE) approach
*
Experience trouble shooting technical problems
*
Experience working with Waters/Empower platform for both HPLC and UPLC
*
Experience working with microbial fermentations
*
Experience working with mammalian cell culture
*
Experience working with chromatography (AKTA/Unicorn), tangential flow filtration, dialysis, centrifugation, homogenization
*
Ability to manage (prepare, run, analyze, and interpret) a large number of samples with supporting GLP/GMP supporting documentation required.
