Postdoctoral Research Associate in Medical Image Analysis and MR Physics

Job Details

Applications are invited for a 3 year fixed term Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Academic Unit of Radiology, University of Sheffield. This is one of 3 new positions which will work within a collaborative team of leading imaging scientists, radiologists and their collaborators developing advanced image processing and magnetic resonance imaging techniques. It is expected that there will be some overlap of interests between this and other inter-related posts and the successful candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate within these.

The post will suit candidates from an engineering, computer science, neuroscience, or physics background with a PhD, or previous post-doctoral experience, in biomedical image analysis, or a related area. Experience with advanced MR imaging techniques and their analysis would be advantageous. The post will involve developing / evaluating computational image analysis methods for post-processing and visualisation of advanced MRI data to aid diagnosis and evaluation of cerebellar disease and gluten related neurological disease.

Sheffield has an internationally respected clinical research group focused on ataxia and gluten related neurological disease with key collaborators Prof Marios Hadjivassiliou and Prof David Sanders. In particular, the ability of Diffusion Tensor imaging (DTI) and other MR diffusion techniques, Arterial Spin Labelling (ASL) perfusion imaging to improve the diagnosis and monitor cerebellar disease and function will be assessed alongside conventional structural image analysis methods. In addition, the usefulness of GABA spectroscopy and functional (BOLD) MRI methods will be investigated.
