Job Details

Sheffield University’s Academic Unit of Radiology (AUR) manages 3 clinical research Magnetic Resonance (MR) Imaging and Spectroscopy systems and has its main hub within the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, part of one of the largest NHS Trusts in England. Clinical imaging research drives our work. One of our main goals is to explore the mechanisms behind neurological and metabolic disease using MR and to translate human experimental imaging into the clinical setting. We have built an international standing in using MR to further our knowledge of how the brain and spine are involved in complications associated with diabetes (cerebrovascular and neuropathic). Our multi-disciplinary group, linking the expertise of diabetologists and imaging scientists, aims to use cutting-edge MR to make significant inroads in helping to combat debilitating complications of diabetes.

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate (imaging scientist) to help us with this. You will be based within the AUR and is expected to develop and further links with specialist clinical colleagues, both academic and within the local NHS Trust. Your primary role will be to develop and implement image processing tools in the context of both clinical research needs and novel image acquisition strategies. Support for student projects will also form part of the work plan. This post will require previous experience in MR and publication of scientific articles / presentation of research findings at conferences. You will have obtained a Doctorate in a related specialism (eg. MR imaging/spectroscopy/image processing) and have keen interests in image processing and/or image acquisition.

Computer programming skills will be required. As well as the benefits associated with being part of The University of Sheffield, this post will offer membership of a renowned imaging/diabetes team, with opportunities to influence how imaging science tackles one of our major growing health burdens. This post is fixed term for 3 years with an intended start date of 1 December 2016.
