Duties

  • Strategic leadership and operational management of the Division;
  • Teaching and guiding undergraduate and postgraduate students in Cardiothoracic Surgery;
  • Guiding and participating in the design, execution and publication of research;
  • Rendering clinical service in the field of Cardiothoracic Surgery.


Job Requirements

  • A postgraduate qualification in Cardiothoracic Surgery;
  • Registration/compliance with the criteria for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as Cardiothoracic Surgeon;
  • Management experience within an academic environment;
  • Teaching experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Experience in and a proven record of independent and innovative research and guidance of research.


Recommendation

  • A doctoral degree;
  • A fellowship in congenital heart surgery;
  • Extensive experience in paediatric and adult thoracic surgery;
  • Experience in valve repair.
