Research Project Manager (25 hours per week) (Contract appointment: 4 years) (Post level 11)

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Oversee and perform administrative functions relating to the project.
  • Provide administrative support to the principal investigator and the research team.
  • Manage administrative duties of the office on a day-to-day basis.
  • Manage budgets and expenditure meticulously and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Perform various administrative duties such as coordinating meetings, taking minutes, organising events and venues, planning stakeholder events, updating the project calendar and logging all project activities.
  • Keep record of the progress of the project.
  • Maintain complex data systems associated with the project and ensure confidentiality thereof.
  • Compile PowerPoint presentations as required.
  • Hire service providers and order supplies as required.
  • Organise fieldwork trips to sites in the various provinces such as Free State, Limpopo and Gauteng.
  • Co-ordinate tasks of the research team.
  • Capture all research outputs accurately and comprehensively on the research data base.
  • Resolve any issues related to the project.
  • Build and manage interpersonal relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure ethical conduct of oneself and maintain confidentiality.

  • Inherent requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two (2) to three (3) years’ administrative experience and / or project management experience in a university environment and / or project

  • Required competencies:

    • Advanced computer skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Decision making and problem solving skills
    • Stress and time management skills
    • Critical and logical thinking
    • Analytical skills and the ability to interpret information
    • Ability to think creatively with regards to the management of day-to-day tasks
    • Ability to work independently without the need for supervision
    • Ability to adapt to change


    Recommendations:

    • Honours degree in Social science, Humanities, or Law
    • Experience in administrative and financial systems at the University of the Free State.

    1 December 2016.
