National Crystallography Service
The UK National Crystallography Service (NCS, http://www.ncs.ac.uk/), based at the University of Southampton, is seeking a researcher to join the team. The NCS is an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funded Mid-Range facility, its purpose is to provide access to crystallographic instrumentation, and expertise that goes beyond what is available at any single institution. Therefore, considerable experience is required.
You will have PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Chemical Crystallography and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team to address complex crystallographic problems and communicate the results in a timely manner. It would be highly desirable for you to have held additional related position(s).
*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
NCS Research Scientists are expected to independently lead and conduct small research projects in advanced crystallographic techniques. You will be expected to demonstrate the potential to do this in the field of charge density analysis. A good publication track record and the ability to demonstrate experience in training others to perform chemical crystallography analysis would be advantageous.
The post is tenable from 1 November 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position will be available for 3 years in the first instance with the possibility of an extension for a further 2 years.
You should submit your completed online application form at www.jobs.soton.ac.uk. The application deadline will be midnight on the closing date stated above. If you need any assistance, please call Maxine Parker (Recruitment Team) on +44 (0) 23 8059 3784. Please quote reference 780016EB on all correspondence.
