We are seeking to appoint a talented and able quantitative researcher with experience in undertaking research studies in the field of suicide and/or self-harm research. The post is jointly funded by 1) an NIHR-funded programme of studies aimed at developing interventions to reduce the incidence of suicide in England and 2) NIHR CLAHRC West (the Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care in the West) which is collaborating on studies involving the Bristol self- harm surveillance register. The CLAHRC West brings together local Universities, NHS organizations, local authorities and patients/members of the public to undertake research to improve NHS care and public health.

You will work on research being carried out in collaboration with researchers and clinicians in Bristol, Oxford, Manchester and Glasgow. You will analyse survey data investigating levels of mental ill-health amongst people experiencing financial and employment difficulties, maintain and undertake regular analyses of the Bristol Self-harm surveillance register, identify and implement new approaches to data capture and work collaboratively on studies of suicide in low income countries. You will join a multidisciplinary team of epidemiologists, psychiatrists, social scientists, health economists, statisticians, service users, NHS managers and nurses.

You will have skills in quantitative analysis, particularly in analysing large datasets of routinely collected data and writing up your findings. Knowledge, understanding and previous experience of working in the area of suicide and self-harm is essential.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to teaching and to develop your own research programme in collaboration with other staff members.

This is a full time, 1FTE appointment and is available to be taken up as soon as possible, with funding available for 12 months.
