FACULTY MANAGER

PEROMNES POST LEVEL 5

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will provide an administrative service of the highest level to the Office of the Dean. This will include:

  • Serving as co-ordinator of all administrative activities in the Office of the Dean in consultation with the two Deputy Deans, the Human Resources Business Partner and the Head of Academic Administration;
  • Assisting the Dean in day-to-day operations and ensuring that the Dean is not burdened with routine administrative processes;
  • Managing the shared services staff allocated to the Faculty, thereby ensuring the effective delivery and on-going improvement of support services to the Faculty;
  • Overseeing optimal utilisation and maintenance of facilities allocated to the Faculty;
  • Preparing the annual budget, aligned with the Faculty Plan and to monitor expenditure.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • An Honours-degree in Management (e.g. Business, Human Resources, Finance);
  • 10 years’ experience at middle management level (e.g. human resources, finance, facilities) which includes at least three years’ experience in the management of occupational health and safety.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Sound general managerial and leadership skills;
  • Computer and information literacy;
  • Excellent language and communication skills;
  • Appropriate interpersonal skills;
  • Strong persuasive and conflict handling skills;
  • Ability to think strategically and analytically;
  • Ability to cope with stringent deadlines and work pressure.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • A Master’s degree in Business, Human Resources or Finance;
  • Experience in management at a tertiary institution.

The total remuneration package for this position ranges from approximately R 637 320 to R 812 286 as determined by UP policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
