The role

The successful appointees will be responsible for undertaking undergraduate and postgraduate teaching including course coordination and program development; research higher degree student supervision; research; and professional activities in the field of Data Science. This position will primarily contribute to the University's new flagship Masters program in Data Science.

The person

Appointment to Level B/C

Applicants should possess a PhD in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field.  A demonstrated understanding of modern data science methods and familiarity with advanced database systems, information retrieval, and statistical or machine learning techniques is essential as is an understanding of modern data science software and tools, from cloud computing to the many existing commercial products used for data analytics.  You should also have a strong desire to develop and/or grow  a successful and highly-productive research career, good general research skills, a strong methodological background and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams.

We welcome applications from computer scientists with expertise in databases, data quality, machine learning, data management, multimedia and pattern recognition, social media analytics, big data foundations and infrastructure, statistics, privacy, trust and security. We seek to appoint a scientist with interest and experience in systems thinking and well versed in big data technologies.

Appointment to Level D

In addition to the above applicants applying for appointment at Level D are expected to undertake leadership roles and demonstrate excellence in teaching, research, service and engagement.  Additionally, he/she must be able to demonstrate a sustained record of outstanding impact and achievement that is internationally recognised in teaching and research.

Remuneration

There are two full-time continuing appointments available at Academic Level B, Level C, or Level D.  Appointment level will be commensurate to qualifications and experience.

The remuneration package will be in the range $89,459 - $106,232 per annum (Level B); $109,587 - $126,360 per annum (Level C); and $131,951 - $145,370 per annum (Level D), plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $104,667 - $124,292 (Level B); $128,217 - $147,841 (Level C); $154,383 - $170,083 (Level D) per annum.
