The UAlberta's Technology Commercialization Centre is looking for a tech savvy individual who has an interest in and a passion for entrepreneurship and innovation. The successful candidate will be working with UAlberta Alumni and members of Edmonton's entrepreneurial networks to support the creation of on-line content for the University's 7,000 plus graduate student population. This is a new initiative which means there is an opportunity to influence the end product and develop workflow and content strategies to create unique and engaging on-line micro-courses.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Technology Commercialization Centre, the Micro-Course Coordinator will support and coordinates various events hosted by Venture Mentoring Services/Advancement and eHUB along with supporting a platform for introductory micro-course development for graduate students. This position will assist with leveraging internal experts and alumni networks to create introductory courses to better prepare graduate students for various professional endeavors including entrepreneurial ventures, understanding the role entrepreneurship plays within organizations, preparing for working at an entrepreneurial start up, and developing an entrepreneurial mindset. These courses will also allow key experts and alumni a platform through which to share their skills, knowledge, and expertise for a wide audience.

 Duties

  • Works with the Director of eHUB and the Manager of VMS to identify topics of interest and resources to draw from (e.g. organizations, web sites, news sources)
  • Coordinates with the two centers to identify and build relationships with key knowledge experts for course content
  • Works with knowledge experts to produce micro-course content then translates and modifies content onto platform using e-learning best practices
  • Sets up videoconferencing, Skype, eClass conferencing or other communication technologies as required
  • Sets up eClass with the agreed upon course format, layout, activities, and features
  • Manages FOIPP and content for presenters; this may include copyright documentation
  • Maintains live platform, troubleshoots and works with IST to resolve problems for instructors, student users and external e-class participants
  • Creates Student IDs in PeopleSoft so alumni and non-UA members can access Moodle
  • Acts as the liaison with high profile speakers and presenters for eHUB Events
  • Coordinates event/program logistics including scheduling speakers, arranging travel and accommodation, arranging room bookings, equipment, catering, distributing course materials, room set-up and tear down for events
  • Reports on data to business units including FGSR, IST, Technology Commercialization Centre and Advancement
  • Tracks metrics on Moodle users


Qualifications

  • Completion of post-secondary education in a related discipline preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered; minimum High School Diploma
  • 3 years of experience with office systems and records management, preferably in a post-secondary environment
  • Excellent computer skills in a Windows environment using MS Office applications (Word and Excel) and Google applications
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and web applications; PeopleSoft applications and familiarity with cloud based services an asset
  • Experience with online learning technologies such as e-class an Moodle an asset
  • Strong event planning and management experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including networking and public speaking skills
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced and customer-service oriented environment
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities with limited supervision
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures and FOIPP an asset
