Queensland Brain Institute

Established in 2003, QBI (www.qbi.uq.edu.au) is housed on the St Lucia campus of UQ. It is home to more than 450 staff and students, including 41 group leaders, working across a range of disciplines, focused on discovering the fundamental mechanisms that regulate brain development and function in health and disease.

Over the past decade QBI has become known as one of the world's leading neuroscience research institutes. It played a key role in contributing to UQ attaining the highest possible score of 5 for neuroscience, in both the 2010, 2012, and 2015 Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) reviews, one of only two universities in Australia to achieve this.

The role

The appointee will focus on the development of a multifunctional bio-organic interface for sensing and stimulating of neuronal dynamics. This will include developing and progressing processes and techniques around singlet fission and the use of optogenetics and optelectronic devices. The successful applicant will also study the effect of magnetic fields and temperature gradients on neural recordings

The person

Applicants must have a PhD in materials related to solid-state optical/electronic devices with a strong research trajectory, including publications in high ranking journals. Experience in the use of opto-electronic devices and related fabrication is essential as is an ability to acquire and establish unique experimental methodologies.  

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at Academic level B for 3 years.

 The remuneration package will be in the range of:

 Academic Level B - $89,458 - $106,232 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range of $104,666 - $124,291 p.a.)
