The University of Bristol is seeking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic individual who has extensive experience of academic study skills within a higher education context.

The University Academic Skills Developer will be responsible for the development of a fully sustainable approach to the central provision of generic study/ academic skills support for undergraduate and postgraduate taught students which is distinctive to the University. Under the guidance of the Head of Student Engagement, the post-holder will lead on the development of the study skills resources, providing expertise on curriculum content and pedagogy. Working with the Academic Study Skills Coordinator, the TEL Developer, the Project Manager for Bristol Futures and other contributors including academics and students, they will work on the content development of online modules, helping to design the storyboards and advise and determine appropriate delivery formats. They will also be involved in the delivery and facilitation of student workshops, staff training sessions.

The Study Skills Developer will be responsible for co-ordinating the roll-out of a two year centralised academic study skills pilot, with a view to permanently embedding the provision of generic skills at the university, this process will involve regular consultation with the Study Skills and Personal Development Planning (PDP) Steering Group and piloting and evaluation of the skills content with the Student User Group and selected academic departments. They will act as a bridge between key stakeholder groups such as the Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) Team, the Centre for English Language and Foundation Studies (CELFS), the Strategic Projects Office Library Services and other Professional Services contributors to the academic skills programme.

The post-holder will be line-managed within the Library Service and will report to the Head of Student Engagement, but will work in a matrix across student-facing Professional Services and academic leadership. The pilot together with another initiative around PDP will be overseen by a steering group which will comprise academic and Professional Services stakeholders. An ability to engage and inspire students and to promote the value of academic study skills is essential to the success of this post. The academic study skills pilot forms part of a wide-scale curriculum development initiative called Bristol Futures.
