With funding from Ministry of Education and Woolf Fisher Research Centre, we have the opportunity to appoint a Research Fellow. This is a full-time, fixed-term opportunity from 1 October 2016 until 1 October 2018.

In this position the Fellow will be using data bases available from the Growing Up in New Zealand Study (GuiNZ) to generate and answer policy linked questions related to early childhood education for the Ministry of Education. Policy papers supplied in an agile and timely manner directly to the Ministry of Education (MoE) as well as research related papers would be expected as outcomes.

The appointee will work with a small team of colleagues from the Faculty and from the Ministry of Education, to generate research questions, analyse data and to develop policy recommendations.  

Essentially to be successful in this role the applicant must have a recent (within 6 years) doctoral degree in education or psychology or policy (PhD or EdD) preferably relevant to the field of early childhood education. The applicant must have a commitment to contribute to Scholarly Articles and these articles must be produced to publishable standards.  To this end, the applicant will, as part of their appointment, work with his/her data analysis experience for scholarly and applied purposes. 

The successful applicant will:

  • be familiar with advanced quantitative analysis methods (appropriate for longitudinal data bases such as regression analyses, HLM; SEM)

  • have demonstrated interpersonal skills for developing and maintaining productive relationships with research teams and policy teams

  • have successful experience managing and delivering a research study to meet deadlines

  • have research experience through postgraduate study

 

Ideally the successful applicant will also have:

  • recent (within 6 years) doctoral degree in education or psychology or policy (PhD or EdD) preferably relevant to the field of early childhood education

  • data analytic skills for using longitudinal data bases and also suitable for evaluation and research in schools

  • some experience related to using research to inform policy decision
